In California, a judgment is good for 10 years from the date of issuance, and it can be renewed at any time during those 10 years (good for another 10 years), and so forth, provided that the renewals are done timely. With each renewal, a new abstract must be issued and recorded in each county in which your debtor has/will have real property.

How long do you want it to last? Is it for or against you? If against you, stay quiet and if the judgment is not renewed after ten years, have it removed from your credit, et al.

If you are the creditor, it is good for ten years, then you must take proper steps to renew it or lose it every ten years.
