Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I have a legal issue regarding a breach contract. I did an Automobile Bill of Sale contract where I keep legal title of a vehicle sold on a month to month payment basis. Well I only received 5 payments out of 15, the contract states I am to get the vehicle back which he wont return and I just found out he forged my signature and switch names to the title which the contract did not allow until payed off... I already issued a courtesy stop request w/ the DMV but I don't know what to do from this point and I haven't issued a proper sue yet. Whats my next step?

Call the police, and also go to court for a "writ of replevin."
