Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Liability for friend's personal property

We allowed a friend to erect a shed and store her personal belongings on our property. We have since become estranged and we are concerned that she will eventually sue us for damage to the property or injury should she comes onto our property to deal with her belongings and twist an ankle. Is there a way to protect ouselves from law suit, short of asking her to remove her belongings? Maybe a signed contract holding us harmless from damage or injury?

Re: Liability for friend's personal property

A hold harmless agreement may have some effect; adequate liability insurance would be even better.

But the most logical and effective solution would appear to be to terminate her free storage priviliges - you might send her a written notice giving her 2 weeks to remove her belongings.
