Liability for tree root encroachment for new homeowner

Am I liable for tree root encroachment and damage to my neighbor's property that happened prior to my purchasing my house? Am I responsible for removing the tree?

Probably the prior owner is responsible for the damage but you will have to remove the tree or the roots. This should be handled by you homeowner insurance company.
