Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Can a lien be placed on intellectual property?

I was a software developer contractor for a corporation that claims to be financially insolvent, though not in bankruptcy. As such, they are not paying their invoices to their contractors. .I have a substantial unpaid invoice. They do not have much real property assets. Can a lien be placed on their intellectual property?

Mr. Telanoff is right, but the kind of liens he is talking about come from a court order. In other words, you would have to sue the company to get such a lien. My sense is that you want to put a lien on the intellectual property without first going to court. Unless your contract with the company gives you the right to do that, I'm afraid you're out of luck.
