Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Loss of personal belongings.

We were given notice to leave the house we were living in, and in the agreement with the landlord we were to be given 15 days to remove all of our personal belongings from the property, the house was to remain locked up at all times to secure our personal property. The landlord left the place unsecured, and allowed her daughter to move in there while our stuff was still inside and now some of it has come up missing. What can we do about this, and how do we file a claim in small claims court about it?

It's called conversion. Make a list of all the items, and their depreciated value. If you have photos of any of them, bring them to court. You might file suit not only against the landlord but his daughter as well. You can allege breach of oral agreement and conversion.
