Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Man faked cancer.

A friend lied and faked that he was dying of cancer. He used make up to make himself look ill and used a wheel chair. I had trust issues before incident and now things are worse. I would like to know if there's any legal action that can be taken?

Unless you loaned him money because of his misrepresentation, no.

I agree with Mr. Cohen that you have no rights against this man unless you were harmed by his lies, but I don't agree that lending him money was the only type of harm that the law would recognize. Also, if you were not harmed but know of someone else who was, you may be able to persuade that person to take action.

If this friend duped the government into giving him benefits to which he was not entitled you can report him to the agencies that he cheated; if they sue and recover some of the money you may be entitled to a percentage as a reward.
