Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

If I get married to a Mexican citizen, in Mexico via a Religious only ceremony, would I be considered (legally) married in the state of California? For example, when it comes to civil law, being sued, or even for under bankruptcy law. Thanks!

You would have to check the laws of Mexico. California would generally defer to the law of the country in which you had the ceremony to determine whether or not to find a valid marriage exists or not.
