Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I have a misdemeanor traffic ticket for tossing a cigarette butt out the window (really, it was a cigarette, nothing else). As a result, my license is suspended and in order to correct this, I have to go to court in downtown Los Angeles but the court date I was given is in February 2010.

Is there another way to get to see the judge so I can clear this up? I am going to school and need my car for transportation and prefer not to drive on a suspended license. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Go to the traffic window down at the court house and ask them. For most traffic cases, if you are willing to plead guilty and pay the fines, they usually can process it without a court appearance and reinstate your license.
