Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
Noise
Neighborhood loud party noise is becoming more and more prevalant. I am referring to the music and announcements made by DJ's amplified beyond all reason. People complain, some call the police, the police respond as best they can, the noise stops or not, etc. The next weekend another house, same story. Is there any legal way to end this cycle? Suing the party givers doesn't make sense. Sue the DJ's? For what? How many times would that work? Is there some way to stop DJ's from operating in backyards, in residential areas? Can one person do anything or does it take a group?

Re: Noise
You will have to sue for an injunction to abate a nuisance, i.e. an order from the court which precludes the neighbors etc. from making noise above a certain level. You should contact an attorney familiar with civil litigation. Call us when you are ready to proceed.
Re: Noise
The property owners and the people who have the parties are ultimatetly responsible for controlling the noise. If the police can't/won't help and you can't get them to stop voluntarily, you CAN sue for abatement of nuisance, including for restraining orders prohibitting noise and music after certain times.
Re: Noise
if the noise does not constitute disturbance of the peace from a law enforcement point of view, then you should file for injunctive relief for private nuisance, especially if the noise is unreasonable to your other neighbors as well.
