are non profits allowed to lobby the government? Do non profit incorporation articles include a no lobbying clause or a clause that curtails their lobbying ability?

There are several categories of nonprofit. Many of them can engage in activities to influence legislation or elections. However, charitable nonprofits, under 501(c)3, which are the only nonprofits that can accept tax deductible donations, absolutely cannot engage in any activities to influence government.

I should also add that the prohibition on influencing government is imposed by law, no matter what the bylaws or articles of incorporation say.
