I sent a personal letter to an acquaintance who sold it. Can I recover it from the buyer?

I doubt it very much. They were innoncent buyers and you gave no warning they should be leeay of the purchase,

Ordinarily a personal letter becomes the recipient's property, and the recipient can sell it if she wants to. The buyer would then own the physical letter, but offhand I am not sure whether he would own the copyright to its contents.
