Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Proof of Service via mail when I AM party to legal action?

Does this need to be sent by someone who is not party to the legal action? How can someone (myself) in propria persona serve this?

There's no getting around it: If, for some reason, you are determined to be a pro per, you must find a warm body over the age of 18 who is willing to sign proofs of service.

If you really are that hard up for friends, a couple of bucks will persuade an employee of UPS Store (or the equivaent) to sign the proof of service and mail the item.

You need to have someone else serve the documents for you. It doesn't have to be an employee; a friend or relative will do. All that matters is that the person not be a party to the case.
