Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

received a ticket for using an old parking ticket instead of paying for a new one. Now I have to go to court, they do not want to postpone the day and I have final exams on that day. What happens if I do not show on the assigned day but go the next day?

What kind of punishment should I expect? Should I hire a lawyer to represent me?

Are you getting sued in civil court, or prosecuted in criminal court? If you are getting prosecuted in criminal court, you should have an attorney, and you should post in the category for criminal defense lawyers to answer your questions.
