Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
I recently won a civil lawsuit against and individual, for $6500 for stuff he stole from me. Since though, the defendant has filed for bankruptcy...what can i do next if anything? Im not very familiar with the law or what my options would be in this case. Any information would greatly be appreciated, Thanks.

You might have to file an adversary action in bankruptcy court to determine whether the debt to you is dischargeable. Among the reasons a debt is not dischargeable is intentional injury to another entity (that includes a person). The conversion of your personal property might be intentional, depending on your evidence. Also, if the trial judge made a finding of fact, that might help you to prosecute your adversary action. You can check the law libraries at or near courthouses for possible forms to use to guide you in preparing your filing. There are strict deadlines for doing so. So don't wait!
