Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Recover Support Provided to Step Child

My wife and I are getting divorced. She has a 16 year old daughter from a previous marriage that I have helped raise and financially support since she was two years old.

Since the 16 year old is not my natural daughter, I have no custody or visitation rights to her now. I have not seen the 16 year old for over 7 months.

I have helped financilly support the 16 year old and have provided medical coverage for her since 2001. Is there something that can be done to recover money and care that I have provided over the years for the 16 year old from her mother, my soon to be ex wife?

Her mother has a child support order from the 16 year olds natural father. Of course he does not pay anything agaist the order and has not provided any support for 14 years. Most of the financial and health care has fallen back on me and her mother for his child.

The mother and the 16 year old are owed well over $ 95,000 in past due child support. The ex is out of the country so it is doubtful they will collect anything.

Is there something I can do to obtain 1/2 from my soon to be ex wife or sue for some of my financial support back?

Any advise would be appreciated.
