How to respond to question, "why do I feel I am owed money/" from mechanic who I'm filing small claims case against? BAR found them to be unlicensed, but were unable to locate mechanic as mechanic closed his shop when he found out I'd called BAR.

The unlicensed mechanic, to whom I paid $XXXX in advance, misrepresented his/her license status and negligently performed the work he promised to do, such that my vehicle remained in disrepair. Subsequently, I had to bring it to a licensed mechanic to repair the vehicle and paid him/her $XXX.
