Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
Rights to property in question
2 mo after mvng in w/ my ex boyfriend, he lost his house. He moved all of his stuff along with what few items of mine he had room for (left behind quite a few but he told me he would replace)into a strage unit. We put the unit in his name and my mom as the emerg contact. 1 month later we brokeup. I was going to go live with family, he said my stuff in the strage could be left until able to pick up. 2 mo ago (4 1/2 mo after breakup) my mom got a ltr from the storage saying he had not paid in over 3 mo and that items would go to auction the nxt week. I couldn't get a hold of him for 5 days so I scraped up nrly $800 to save my few things and all of his stuff 2 dys be4 auction, w/ instruct to the storage that should he come in to pay before the sched auction time, they take his money & refund mine. He called them the mrning of auction, said that he would NOT be able to pay. He then called me to lie that he paid it. I didn't tell him that I had paid it and put my own lock on the unit. Now 2 mo later he has sent to storage w/out talking with them or me several money orders. I need to know what to do...do I have to give him access back to his stuff, or do I have a right to what I saved from auction?

Since you bought at a legal auction, the property is yours.
