Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I have been served papers stating I am being sued for a past due credit card debt. I am trying to fill out an "Answer-contract" I am basically trying to figure out how to fill the paperwork out. first thing it asks to mark a box to complaint of? or to cross complaint? and well I just don't know how to answer any other question on the paper?

There probably are self-help books in the library or bookstore. You might also avail yourself of a law school nearby, and seek some help. This was not a cross-complaint, but a complaint. Insert the name of the plaintiff -- i.e. the person or company suing you. But you should also state several defenses to fully cover you. There might even be a statute of limitation defense that could make the debt uncollectable. Legal advice wouldn't hurt.
