Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I am serving a non-party witness with a deposition notice. The notice requests documents they have, as well as their personal appearance. Can I set up my subpoena to get documents mailed or delivered earlier than the deposition date, so that I have time to review them?

You can't depose a non-party witness with just a deposition notice. That requires a deposition notice and a subpoena. If you are not an attorney, you have to have the court issue the subpoena. If you want the documents in advance, then that will be two different subpoenas, one to get the documents early, and then a second one to take the deposition.

There are all kinds of procedural rules, and the space here is to short to list them all. You really should have an attorney assist you.
