Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Slandered

I recently had a police report filed against me for sexual assault. Following the investigation I was told that the DA would not be filing charges. I had maintained my innocence from the initial filing and thru out the investigation. But during the course of the investigation the person that had filed the report and another friend of hers had told all mutual acquaintances that I was a rapist. Not only did they tell people of mutual aquaintance, but family members and others as well. The mere fact of being accused was enough to send my personal and public life thru turbulant and overwhelming emotional and physical madness.

I want to know if there is a basis on which I can file a civil case against the woman that accused me in the first place.

Re: Slandered

You might have a case for defamation. You should talk to an attorney in the County you live in. If you are in San Diego, I will talk with you, otherwise, call your local bar association and they can refer you to someone.
