Small claims court?

Someone tried to serve me papers a couple of nights ago, the only thing that I may have outstanding would maybe be co-signing for my sons apartment which I find out later that he owes, but he owes a lot of other things for which he is about to file for bankruptcy. I want to find out for sure that this is what was being served and can I avoid the whole problem if he files bankruptcy? My main question is can I find out (discretely) if this is what I was being served for ?

Any attorney service can do a search called a Civil Index to see if a lawsuit has been filed against you. You can also go down to the clerk's office and do it yourself.

If your son files bankruptcy you are not protected by it. unless you personally file a bankruptcy also then they people you cosigned with can still sue you for the whole amount your son owes.
