Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
small claims limit
if a loaned the same person money several different times and they have not paid me back the entire balance, can i file a small claims case for each time? Loans were for 15,000, 10,000, and 6,000. Each loan was about a month apart. She paid back 20,000 which will cover the first loan and half of the second loan. Can I sue for the remainder of the 2nd loan (balance 5000) and the 3rd loan (balance 6000) in two seperate small claims cases? I live in CA so the small claims limit is 7500.00.

Re: small claims limit
If the loans were separate and distinct from one another, supported by separate writings, you could do that approach. If not then you may run afoul of the prohibition of splitting your causes of action which is prohibited.
