Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I was at a social gathering and passed out contact information cards...the card contained my name, email address and cell phone number.

About a week later I received e-mails that I was signed up as a customer for an MLM company...a company that I have been approached by very good friends to join and I declined.

Upon researching, I found out that I was signed up by someone who I handed my card to at ONE event. I met this person once -- did not even have a conversation about ANYTHING - let alone this and the next thing I knew she used this information to sign me up for her benefit.

Having been in many MLMs before, I KNOW this is not common practice and is looked upon as UNETHICAL...my question is -- Is it illegal, and do I have any legal recourse?

If you don't want people using your e-mail address, don't hand it out.
