Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

stalker has cost me my teaching job

I have been harassed and stalked by the same man, since 1994. Recently he paid 3 visits to the college where I teach parrt-time. As a consequence, the administration told me I might "need a break" during the summer, and withdrew the treaching job for summer that I had already accepted.

Also, I have had to move, change my business phone and web address, and lose a ton of sleep over this.

No attorney seems interested because the dollar amounts are not in the hundreds of thousands. (I have asked a few.) Also, none has heard of Calif's new anti-cyberstalking law which makes it a civil matter for which I can collect damages. I think the stalker himself is worth all of 30K ( he's a computer programmer)

Any advice on how to get legal help?

Pay for an attorney to obtain a restraining order, and

to file suit for personal injuries (theories include stalking,

intentional infliction of emotional distress).

Civil action is expensive and may not provide the help you are looking for.

California has very strong laws regarding harassment. I would recommend that you go to the

police department and file a formal complaint. Also seek out the District Attorney (or City Attorney

depending on where you live) to file criminal charges against the person. As for a restraining order, there are

women's groups who can help you fill out the forms yourself.

Have the sheriff at the court serve the order.

GOOD LUCK !
