What are the two standards of proof in a civil trial?

The most common is called the "preponderance of the evidence" standard. The less commonly encountered standard is called "clear and convincing evidence." Neither of these is the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard of criminal trials which people are familiar with from television and other sources.
