Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I am starting a smalls claim againts someone (his dog bit my dog) His girlfriend said to me today that I am being counter sued by him for harrasment, due to that I was in my car when he got served. I was in the apartment complex parking lot waiting in my car as the other person served him at his door. Is this not allowed for me to be in a car when he got served?

You're allowed to be in the car to point out to the process server who the person is who needs to be served. Just bring your process server with you to court in case there's a question about your conduct.
