Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Statute Of Limitation on civil suit

I am trying to find out the statute of limitation on a civil suit claiming loss of personal property. There was no contract in reference to the property, the Plaintiff in the case was incarcerated for domestic violence and was being evicted from his home, instead of letting him lose his property I moved everything into a storage for him as he had 6 months left to serve in his sentence. This happened in 1998 in and I have had a restraining order against him as he has continued to intimidate me. Thank you
