Stolen Car

My roomate borrowed my car and locked the keys inside. When we went to go back to onlock the car, the car was stolen. Is my roomate liable for the loss of my vehicle and can I take hime to court if he refuses to compensate me for his irresponsibility.

Yes he is liable. If you are insured, please notify your insurance carrier.

I recommend you make a claim and get on with your life. If you have no insurance, you have learned two valuable lessons:

1-If you love it, insure it.

2-Always have an extra set of car keys readily available.

The previous post regarding making sure that you have adequate insurance and an extra set of keys is good advice. It is also not the best thing to be suing your roommate.

Is there liability? Maybe.

Your roommate was probably negligent by locking the keys in the car, but that does not necessarily mean that he/she is responsible for the theft while getting an extra set of keys.
