stolen work computer

I was issued a computer from my work for use on the job. It was stolen from my home. Am I liable to pay my company for it?

Re: stolen work computer

Definitely let your employer know. Your employer might have an insurance policy with a deductible. You might also let your own homeowners/renters carrier know.

Unless your employer agrees to waive your payment, you would be responsible, since it was in your possession. However, unless you agree in writing, the employer cannot deduct the amount owed from your paycheck(s).

I am not certain that you would be responsible for the cost of the computer. Check with the California State Labor department. They should be able to answer you question.
