Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Subpoena service & witness expenses

When (i.e: time of day, weekdays, etc.) and where can a process server serve a subpoena? What is the deadline for service prior to a court date? What happens if the process server is unable to locate the person to be served?

If the subpoena is served and the person must appear as a witness, how do they recoup travel, accommodation and lost income expenses?

Re: Subpoena service & witness expenses

They can serve anytime. There is no deadline, just a "rasonable" time before the hearing. If you cant find the witness then you ask the court to continue the matter. Witnesses get $35 per day plus milage.
