Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I am being sued in California. I can't afford an attorney. I would at least like to try arbitration. I have ask the court to try nonbinding arbitration. When we go to court again do I ask the court again, or do I automatically get it? Does the Plantiff have to comply or can his attorney somehow prevent it from going to arbitration?

Why do you say you can't afford an attorney? How many attorneys have you called,. and how many have you consulted with in person? Don't agree to a binding arbitration unless your own lawyer recommends it. Either you can afford an attorney or you can afford to lose the case.

It would help you a great deal if you used the proper term "mediation" instead of arbitration. If you ask the court for arbitration, you will be sent to something that is "binding" which is the difference between mediation and arbitration.
