Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Teacher harassed/accused by Parents

I teach arts at a school where the parents are heavily involved. Some of these

parents have begun to spread misinformation about my work, and my

character. I believe they are trying to make a case against me. They have

circulated emails to other parents accusing me of certain actions that make

me look incompetent. My administration and student are fully supportive of

my work. Furthermore I believe their actions could be defaming my

character.

Is there anything that I can do?

Re: Teacher harassed/accused by Parents

It depends on what is contained on the allegations. It would be best to gather all of these and then consult an attorney.

I would arrange a meeting with the principal, the parents responsible, your union rep, and your lawyer. Keep it calm if possible. Get info about why they're doing it, and correct them -- in a calm way. It's always better to work with the parents than to be in conflict, since their kids will be hurt in the long run.
