Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Unfair School

Id apply for Cal Grant for 2001-2202 last year and was denied both Cal Grant A and B because my GPA was low in high school. I started college in August of 2001 and I work hard in college and manage to get a 3.5 GPA and reapply for Cal Grant for 2002-2003. Now my school is saying that they can not use my GPA because I didnt earn enough credits at the time to be counted for 2002-2003 and that they had to use my high school GPA. This really upset because why am I being told to use my high school transcript when it was denied last year for this year again. It makes no sense to me. Its a guarantee denial and I think the school knows that. I was more pissed when I found out that one of my classmates got $16,000 in grant money and this guy was just like me. We both had low GPA in high school like a 2.0, we both graduated in 2001, but we came from a low-income family and we both start going to this college at the same time and have high GPA in college. So how is it that he was able to use his GPA from this College and get a Cal Grant and I didnt? I think since the school messed up all the students Cal Grant applications and that they had a huge deadline to fix the problems. Theyre just being reckless. Is there anything I can do now?

Re: Unfair School

Someone has made a mistake. The best thing for you to do is to go to the cal grant office and see if there is something you can do. Do not go through the school.

It is also possible that your friend had more units than you.

I had the same kind of trouble when I was in college-I decided to treat financial aid like a 3 unit course--the more the school realized I was not going to give up, the more money I got.
