Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Unfair workplace

I would like to know if there are laws against unfair workplaces? Specifically, I would like to know about the legality of double standards in the workplace. I am a male in an all female department. My co-workers are allowed to get away with many things (big & small) that I am not. Arriving late ofr work, leaving cell phones on, being assigned times for lunch and breaks while my co-workers choose their own times, etc. I would like to know if I have any legal recourse for double standards?

Re: Unfair workplace

There are numerous Federal and California laws requiring that employers treat all employees equally. Since they were enacted to protect women and other minorities, many of the earlier court decisions failed to allow men to sue for discrimination. More decisions now allowed men in a minority position to be protected by these laws, but me still have a harder time succeeding with this type of claim.

As a practical matter, is it worth doing anything. You could politely complain to your immediate boss that you are not being treated the same and you wonder why. Tell her what you want rectified. But remember that they may then find that you are a trouble maker and let you go. Your damages are small so it is not worthwhile to spend 10's of thousand's of dollars to file suit.
