verbally character bashing in public
My husband was verbally bashed infront of several neighbors at our homeowners association meeting,by someone who accused him wrongly of doung something and who has been telling the neighbors we are "Trailer Trash" among other things,this is humiliating to our entire family and we are concerned as we have been here 15 years before this with many friends and community involvements.Our lives are being distroyed by this couple.What can we do,we aren't rich.we don't want to move either.

You may have the right to sue them for defamation. It would depend on exactly what was said.
