Legal Question in Health Care Law in California

My husband and I retired about 2 years ago and were on Cobra/Cal-Cobra HMO with 1 more year remaining. We have been verbally told (Aetna) that our insurance has been cancelled because my husbands out-of-state employer changed insurance carriers to Blue Shield of Illinois. They have not notified us in writing that we have been cancelled nor have they offered us the new PPO plan offered to current employees in California. Does Blue Shield have to offer us the same plan as they have given to their California employees? Is there a medical insurance service out there that can clear up this confusion for us?

Have an attorney write to the former employer, on the attorney's letterhead, demanding that the employer comply with its obligations under the COBRA law by offering you Blue Shield PPO, the same plan offered to their current California employees. I would be pleased to perform this service for a nominal fee.
