hi my question is would a dr or insurance co be responsible for feeding an addiction and not spottting it before it got out of control to pain meds?

Insurance company is highly unlikely to have any liability. They have no way of knowing or monitoring proper need versus addiction, and could be sued for denying legitimate claims. A doctor most certainly could be sued for malpractice, but the patient would have to prove the doctor was negligent and acted beneath the standard of care in the profession for preventing it.
