Legal Question in Health Care Law in California

I recently was denied an individual health plan and the day before someone from Kaiser called and asked me if I was still an avid horsebackrider which I am and I said yes. they ended up declining my application saying it was from a"preexsisting condition-an unresolved symptom (a numb fingertip my doctor thought might be carpal tunnel) for which I never followed up any treatment as I found the symptom not to improve with the wrist band to treat carpal tunnel (which I don't think I have). the symptom is not bothersome so I never sought further treatment. The fact they asked me about my sport makes me suspicious that they did not cover me (a 39 year old healthy individual other than taking thyroid meds and the numb fingertip from almost a year ago) for a reason that is not appropriate-risk because of my riding? I can appeal the decision on the preexsisting condition-if they were to exclude me on that I don't know why they wouldn't have excluded me based on the thyroid. I have had continuous health coverage without a break. I can't believe they asked about my sport that can't be appropriate can it? of course they can't deny the plan on that fact but seems suspicious they asked it.

For goodness sake find a health insurer that isn't Kaiser.
