Legal Question in Health Care Law in California

Refusal to pay for mammogram

I was recently referred to a hospital facility for a breast ultrasound by my doctor. Once I arrived at the facility and was changed into a hospital gown, the technician took me to a mammogram room and insisted I have a mammogram as well. I let her know that my doctor had only requested that an ultrasound be administered; yet she insisted despite my concerns already about the effects of these procedures on my milk supply since I had a 3-month-old nursing baby at home. She again insisted and implied that was what I 'should' get done. After the mammogram, I then had the ultrasound. I spoke with my doctor who affirmed that she had only requested an ultrasound. I have asked her twice to fax the facility and let them know this so that I am not responsible for the mammogram charge of $330, but she is not sending the fax for some reason even though she said she would. Can I send them a letter myself refusing payment based on the fact that a mammogram was never requested? Any legal ground for this that I can state? Thanks!

Re: Refusal to pay for mammogram

You can't just buy a mammogram It has to be ordered by a physician. Write your letter.
