Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

I am 56 years old and I'm from Nicaragua. My mother lived in California and was a U.S. Citizen. She had put in a petition for me to get Residency in the United States a couple of years back. My mother sadly passed away in Sept of last year. A month later we received a letter address to her from the Department of Homeland security I-797 notice of action letting her know in what process the case was in. I few people have told me that since my mother passed away that the case is automatically closed. Can you let me know if that's true?

What ever advise you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

There is more information needed but your case may not be over. I suggest you retain counsel immediately (as this is time sensitive) to pull your case file from USCIS, determine exactly where in the process you are and then identify the best strategy to maintaining this process or choosing another if appropriate. Feel free to give us a call.
