Re: Advance Parole

Before applying for advance parole I would highly recommend speaking to an experienced immigration lawyer. If you have ever been "out of status" in the US or have any other ground of inadmissability, you could be barred from returning to the US for 3 or 10 years, even if you obtain advance parole and have the I-485 pending. As you are at a point when you are preparing to adjust status, I would highly recommend that you consult with an attorney before applying for advance parole. Generally speaking the I-485 application is filed along with the I-131 application (advanced Parole). I would not necessarily advise you to leave the US without first talking to an attorney. You can contact Attorney Jennifer Brill to further discuss.

Unfortunately, local CIS offices are no longer supposed to accept the parole filing, and you must file in Chicago. I believe that after the filing is done, some kind of inquiry or urging from the part of an attorney at the local office can be pursued -- at least that's the way it is here in the Los Angeles office.
