Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
Please help!!!
I need an advise on my overstayed visa, it's been almost 5 yrs now that my passport expired. The reason that I overstayed is because of school and now I just graduated from high school. But I can't go on to college because of my (illegal) immigration status. I've never had any criminal records since I got here and all I want to know.... is it possible for me to obtain a greencard or something that's legal? so that I can get into a college.
THANK YOU.........

Thanks for your inquiry. I might suggest that you sit down with an immigration attorney to go over all your options, which are many. For one, you may have your college or employer sponsor you on a work or education visa. You may also be eligible to have another U.S. Citizen in your family sponsor you, and there are even other ways to stay here, but there are simply not enough details in your inquiry to tell, and the fact that you have overstayed means that time is of the essence. I wish I could give you a better answer, but if you go over each option and see what works best for you, your time spent in front of an attorney might be well spent. Best of luck.

Since you've just finished your HS, and have been in US for at least 5 yrs., I assume you were brought to this country by your parents.
As such, there might be some options available to you. However, detailed information about your background is necessary before competent advice could be given. Call your immigration lawyer or call me (323)782-0099.

Well, you said it, you've overstayed your visa. It's unclear what that visa was (tourist?) but you can't change to another visa now while staying in the U.S. If you want to go to an American college here, you'll probably have to go back to your country and apply for the F-1 visa after you've been admitted to that particular college.
As far as a green card, there's no quick solution in your case unless you're the child of a US citizen, or perhaps your parent is about to get his/her green card and you are considered a following-to-join dependent.

You need to find an Employer who would be willing to sponsor you for green card.
