Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
can I still apply to become a US citizen?
Hi, I became a permanent resident back in 2001 through my father. I have been a model citizen my entire life but recently I had my first setback that might jeopardize my ability to apply for citizenship. This past July I went to eat with a couple of my classmates from my graduate program after class. During dinner we had a couple of drinks and I made a judgement error by driving home. On the way home I got pulled over and the cop asked whether i had been drinking. Being that I had never been in trouble my entire life(not even a traffic ticket) I felt that by being honest the cop would let me go so I admitted to having had a couple of drinks. Instead the cops harrased me and cited me for a DUI for being just over the legal limit of .08. Since I am getting my master's degree in counseling and I work with kids I got a lawyer to fight this conviction but unfortunately the judge upheld the charges. According to my lawyer the judge waived the DUI charge but I was convicted with driving over the legal limit. After the convition I was stressing out because I knew this would affect me in a variety of ways including my future application for US citizenship. My question is can I still apply? and if so what are my chances of gaining citizensh

I would need to know more information. However, I would be happy to talk to you regarding your immigration issues. This is a complex issue, that would necessitate a conversation to determine your actual eligibility. Call my office at your earliest convenience.
