Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
I am an asylum-based green card holder who is planning to return to the country of persecution for family emergency reason. I want to visit my father because he is a cancer patient and his life is short. What should I do to prepare when the US officer at the port detains me for questioning.

It is not certain that you would be "detained" as you suggest at the port. However, in the event you are, it would be a good idea to have proof of the medical emergency, showing that your father is going to be dying soon, or has died. The proof may come in the form of medical bills/receipts, letter from the doctor, letters from other people who are with your father. If USCIS determines that there is no future persecution for you, your green card might be revoked. We suggest you to consult with an immigration attorney.

You will be questioned concerning your return to the country from which you feared and your true story as to why you went must over ride your fears and concerns as to whether your claim was properly evaluated to begin with. This sort of situation requires counseling you very specifically concerning your facts so you can highlight all those when questioned in secondary inspection - and there are probably several - to support your need to travel. This sort of consultation would bring to light perhaps other than the obvious documents you might have with you.
