Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Can attorney hide application status from client?

I have an H-1B visa and my employer is sponsoring me for a green card (and paying all legal fees). The attorney informed me that, as such, the client-attorney confidentiality does not apply to my employer. When the last form we filed (I-145) was rejected, the attorney told my employer but not me, and my employer said nothing until months later.

Is that legal? I understand the attorney can share this info with the employer, but can she withhold the fact the form was rejected from me? When she filed the I-145, she sent me a letter confirming the filing and saying that she would keep me posted on any developments regarding my case. She obviously has not done so.

Please let me know if what happened is legal, I don't know how to proceed. I would like to switch lawyers and possibly file a complaint against my current lawyer.

Re: Can attorney hide application status from client?

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOUR EMPLOYER HAS RETAINED THIS ATTORNEY SHE IS NOT OBLIGATED TO TELL YOU ABOUT YOUR I-485 STATUS. THAT IS THE REASON YOU SHOULD GET YOUR OWN ATTORNEY TO DO THE GREEN CARD PROCESS.
