Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Name change in passport

Hi,

My name is Rekha and I would like to change my last name to my husband's last name. I live in California and am an Indian citizen. I was told to publish my name change in a local newspaper here and in India. When I tried to contact the local newspaper here, they want a form from the superior court. Could you please guide me?

There is a procedure in the superior court which you need to do before you can change your name here. But if you produce your marriage certificate.. you can change the last name in Indian passport.

Re: Name change in passport

Dear Inquirer:

You should contact the Indian Consulate in California to see what they require in order to change your last name in your passport to your married name before embarking on an expensive State court proceeding, which may be unnecessary. If you eventually file for US Citizenship, you will be permitted to change your last name to anything you want during the process.

I recommend that you email [email protected] or visit www.hanlonlawgroup.com if you would like to schedule a confidential consultation to discuss this matter further.
