Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Effect of Bankruptcy on Greencard Process

I have 70k loan made by my ex-boyfriend (US Citizen). He has left those debts under my name. I am planning to file bankruptcy, but I would like to know how it is going to affect my future. I am a H1B worker and am on process of obtaining my greencard through my Company as the sponsor. My question is how filling bankruptcy going to affect my greencard process? Would my greencard application be turned down because of the bankruptcy?

Thank you.

Re: Effect of Bankruptcy on Greencard Process

Bankruptcy is provided exactly for the purpose of helping debtors deal with their debt. So long as you have not committed any crimes of moral turpitude in the process, the fact that you have incurred debt should not affect your green card application.
