Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

F1 Student Visa attempting to marry US Citizen

Hi,

I currently live in Los Angeles with my Costa Rican fiance, she is on an F1 student visa. We have planned to marry in Costa Rica this December 2008. We are traveling this summer overseas and return August 10th to the US. If we get legally married once we return in Los Angeles, will that give us enough time to start her adjustment of status and receive her advance parole so she can travel to Costa Rica for the wedding on December 27th.

We've heard a mix from 3-6 months but we'd like to hear from the forum participants.

On the other hand, what if we did not civilly marry in the US but we're married in Costa Rica (at her church) and then civilly married in the US when we returned; that way we wouldn't have to worry about receiving the advanced parole form in time. However, would she be allowed to return (how would the US know that we married?) and what happens when we try to civilly marry in the US?

Thank you very much.

Advance parole takes approximately 3 months from filing the adjustment of status to receive.
