Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

I have a friend that didn't appear in Court in 2007. He was in deportation proceedings and he knew his sponged case of pods of marij w/ intent sales. Now has the means to pay for an attorney and paperwork and wants to recant his order of deportation in absencia and fix his status. Please help me find a clear path to my friend. Thank you

It doesn't sound very good for your friend. Deportation due to drug convictions are just about impossible to fight. In addition, not appearing for a deportation hearing and leaving the country results in a bar to returning to the U.S. There may be solutions based on the details of the person's circumstances. In any case, the person needs to get copies of all his court records for his conviction, immigration history and deportation proceedings and sit down with an immigration attorney to see if there are any options available. Good Luck. Please have your friend call if he wants a consultation. Bill Klein 562-984-2008
